Congrats on your new tattoo

You have a new tattoo, so now what? Well, there are a hundred ways to take care of your fresh tattoo so you might wonder: what is the best way? Don’t panic! First of all, there is no ‘‘best way’’. Everyone’s skin is different and everyone reacts differently to a fresh new tattoo.

To make it a bit easier for you we will give you some tips that always work really well for us.

Plastic Foil

  • Your tattoo can be wrapped in foil. The foil can be removed once you take a shower before going to bed. Remove the foil and rinse it with water. Don’t use soaps!

  • Dry the fresh tattoo with a clean towel by carefully dabbing the wound, DON’T RUB!

  • Put a thin layer of the recommended aftercare product on your tattoo. Please apply a thin layer. By putting too much crème on the tattoo the skin won’t be able to breathe and can harm the healing process of the tattoo. It is very important that your tattoo is dry and your hands are cleaned well before applying the aftercare product.

  • When the aftercare is applied you can wrap the tattoo in new plastic foil, not too tight!

  • Repeat these steps 3 times a day for the first 2 - 3 days. After these first days, you can repeat all steps BUT without wrapping plastic foil around the tattoo. This is only necessary for the first few days.

  • After 4-5 weeks the tattoo is completely healed. If you think the tattoo needs a touch up you can always contact the studio or the artist!

  • Your tattoo can hurt, be red or swollen for up to 4 days. If these symptoms do not go away please contact us!

Second Skin

  • Sometimes Second Skin is used instead of plastic foil. Second Skin is like a plastic band-aid that is anti-bacterial to help heal your tattoo.

  • The tattoo artists will put a Second Skin on your fresh tattoo.

  • Leave the second skin on for a whole day. Sometimes the second skin comes off already a few hours after getting tattooed. If this is the case you can take it off by carefully peeling or rinsing it off with water.

  • There is a big chance the Second Skin is filled with ink and blood. Yes, it looks disgusting, we know! However, this is completely normal so don’t worry if it looks a bit gross!

  • After a day you can remove your Second Skin. The best way is to peel it off under the shower and let the water help rinse it off a bit. You can now continue with the regular aftercare recommended by your tattoo artist.

  • WARNING: There is a chance a rash starts around your second skin or it can get extremely itchy, it could mean that you are allergic to Second Skin. In that case, it's best to take it off straight away by also peeling it off under the shower. If you are uncertain about your second skin you can always contact us by e-mail!

  • Your tattoo can hurt, be red or swollen for up to 4 days. If these symptoms do not go away please contact us!

What you should not do:

  • Avoid sunbathing, tanning, swimming, bathing and saunas. Keep in mind that your tattoo is an open wound and needs to be treated like that.

  • There’s a big chance you’re tattoo is going itch. Please do not pick or scratch your tattoo. We know this is difficult but it will only affect your tattoo negatively.

  • Always make sure you’re hands are cleaned when taking care of your tattoo. Use your own clean towels, your own and new aftercare recommended by the artist.

  • Please avoid wool clothing or clothing that is very tight. Fabric of your clothes or bedsheets can get stuck in your tattoo. No worries, soak it with water and gently pull it off.

  • In can you get a reash, infection or anything that might concern you. Always contact your artist asap before you consult a doctor.
